Staying out of Jail members event and Annual General Meeting

As the title suggests, our intention is to focus on issues that can have serious consequences for our organisations should we fail to address them properly. We anticipate that members will want to hear about or be reminded of some of these 'must do' items, so we anticipate a strong turnout on the day. Final details of timings and the running order are being put in place, and an updated and more detailed programme for the day will be sent out next week.

10.30am: 'Proceeds of Crime' - Det. Sgt Mark Broughton of the City of London Police Confiscation Unit
The Proceeds of Crime Act allows for the confiscation of proceeds of crime under certain circumstances, and Mark will outline the workings of the Act as well as how Suspicious Activity Reports feature in the process.

11.15am: 'The Money Laundering Regulations 2007, What are your Obligations?' - Steve Annis, Compliance Officer, Anti Money Laundering, Office of Fair Trading

  • Why do some housing associations and social landlords need to register and comply with Money Laundering Regulations?
  • How to register with OFT
  • What constitutes Compliance with the Money Laundering Regulations?
  • OFT Compliance Team supervisory visits
  • Compliance Advice, civil penalty and prosecution.

1.45pm: 'Data Protection, Getting it Right' - Nicki Hermansson, Manager, Advisory, Ernst and Young

  • Recent change to the ICO powers (maximum fine increased from £5,000 to £500,000) and ICO calling for custodial sentences
  • What should be considered/implemented/assessed within an organisation to get data protection right?

2.30pm: 'TSA Regulation' - Andy Watson, Associate Director, Business Advisory Services, RSM Tenon
Andy is an Associate Director with RSM Tenon and their National Head of Housing Advisory. He has worked in the sector in various capacities since the early 1990s. He is regularly involved in audit committees on both sides of the table. He has been involved with RP Boards for 14 years and is coming up to his first year as Group Chair of Network Housing Group, one of the G15 in London.
