Last call for the HIAF Conference!

If you want to go to the 2009 Annual Conference on Tuesday 20 January and Wednesday 21 January at the magnificent Alveston Manor Hotel in the centre of Stratford upon Avon, you need to act quickly as booking closes this Wednesday, 14 January.

The conference offers two days packed full with an excellent and varied lineup of speakers and workshops, including Jackie Cain, Technical Director of the IIA - UK and Ireland who will present a session called, ‘What does ‘Assurance’ mean?’  The Institute of Internal Auditors believes that independent and objective assurance is what drives the value of internal audit. There is considerable debate however about what assurance looks like. Before we can tackle the big question of what is ‘good’ assurance, the profession needs to agree what assurance means and what internal auditors need to do to provide it. This presentation will present work-in-progress undertaken by the Institute’s volunteers to answer those questions and outline the next steps for tackling the big question.

Excellent value

The conference offers excellent value for money; members can attend both days and stay overnight – taking advantage of the hotel’s superb facilities - for just £440. Alternatively, day delegate places are also available. Click here for further details.  The conference is also a great opportunity to network with other housing association internal auditors, and it’s not all work and no play. On the Tuesday evening, delegates can enjoy a reception with private bar in the Cedar Room, followed by dinner then a disco and giant Scalextric entertainment.

Annual General Meeting

The Conference will also play host to HIAF’s AGM which includes the election of the Committee. Maximos Theodoridis, who has been our Governance officer, is sadly stepping down as he has taken up a new post outside the housing sector. We would like to thank him for all his hard work on the Committee and wish him the best for the future. If you are interested in joining the Committee or helping with the running of HIAF, please contact Gordon Mattocks.

Members’ seminar in March

Our next members’ seminar will be on Thursday 12 March at Genesis Housing, Edgware Road, Central London. We are putting together the programme but do mark this date in your diaries. The dates and venues for our May and July meetings should be confirmed shortly. Keep an eye out on HIAF’s website.

In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you on the 20th.
