External influence and internal audit - November 2009's event

Twenty five members attended our free seminar, ‘External influence and internal audit’ on November 18, hosted by Deloitte Public Sector Internal Audit Limited.

Starting the event were Kevin Cresswell and Laura Gest from Deloitte who presented an overview of VAT visits from the Revenue. Stan Farmer, Head of Corporate Assurance at the Homes and Community Agency (HCA) updated us on progress in establishing the HCA, how it relates to internal audit, and the key issues in funding for us to consider. He also looked at what the future may hold and the agency’s next steps.

Legal Executive, Tracey Lee from Local Partnerships explained why public sector procurers should still work with building firms named and shamed for bid-rigging public sector projects. Veronica Hill, a lawyer from the Tenant Services Authority (TSA), explained the legal aspects of TSA regulation and the issues affecting internal auditors in the sector. Finally, Chris Lamsdell, Fraud Prevention Manager, Modern Housing Solutions talked about the organisation and provision of its repair service; as well as about audit, compliance and fraud issues from a contractor’s viewpoint.
